Six Senses Southern Dunes brings barefoot hyper luxury to Saudi Arabia

Stantec has completed engineering-design services for the project set to open in 2023, developed by The Red Sea Development Company and designed by Foster + Partners

by Nav Pal 02 September 2022 Sustainable Buildings

Situated around 100 km northeast of Umluj on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, the hotel complex is immersed in the desert landscape and is pursuing the highest environmental standards of sustainability.

Inspired by the surrounding sand dunes, the project’s design uses sustainable, lightweight materials reflecting the textures of the Saudi Arabian desert. Structures have been carefully planned and sited to minimise environmental impact and use a high-performance thermal envelope to conserve energy.

Stantec’s building engineering services enhance the design vision and support TRSDC’s sustainability principles. Design elements include dark-sky lighting techniques to reduce light pollution and a bespoke grade foundation to limit disturbance to the soil.

The project has been engineered with the goal of achieving LEED Platinum certification.

Six Senses Southern Dunes allows visitors to experience one of the most majestic dunescapes on Earth in an eco-friendly manner.

Chadi Fayssal, Project Manager, Stantec

Using technology and knowledge of the ecosystem, Stantec’s solutions aim to deliver beyond sustainability and actively seeks to help regenerate the environment through a natural cooling of the space and environmental enhancements.
