Group A renovate office park into green mixed-use spaces in Rotterdam

The site will contain work spaces, public facilities and 750 apartments across three buildings

by Séan Thurgood 16 September 2022

Group A in collaboration with ZZDP Architects, Stijnvandenboogaard Architecture and OKRA landscape architects are creating a green district designed for residential space and relaxation.

The project is named ‘Max Euwe Kwartier’ (MEK). Each of the structures will vary in size and design, but all will be connected with the green public space and shared facilities such as car and bike storage. Paths will weave throughout the area towards social hubs.

MEK01 will feature 299 apartments with public facilities and will be designed by Group A. Featuring a raised green courtyard and a communal rooftop garden, the building will also provide access to galleries. The façade will feature red-coloured concrete, slender frames and a transparent public plinth.

MEK21 shall be the central building and will be designed by ZZDP Architects. This features staggered logias and a gold-coloured grid of ceramic façade elements, with a softer façade element along the promenade. There will be 216 apartments within and several outdoor spaces which will be private for the residents.

MEK31 will be along the south end and is to be designed by Stijnvandenboogaard Architecture. This will contain 232 apartments and offer access to several facilities including offices, catering, and the mobility hub. Light concrete floor edges will unite the base and the tower façade.

The construction is expected to begin in 2023.
