The Weggishof is a new development on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. Across the 7,000 sq m plot, the designers have created 39 apartments, a courtyard focused on biodiversity, and a courtyard with a garden to be used as a public meeting space. In addition there is 1,200 sq m of commercial space for public use.
Nestled into a natural slope, the structure staggers its floors to blend in with the surrounding area and allow a view of the lake to the flats within.
A modular metal façade creates a threshold between the natural beauty of the surrounding area and the careful craftsmanship of the interior.
Using Building Information Modelling (BIM), the project prefabricated the wooden elements used in the construction. With the improved precision that BIM provides, the designers were able to layer the structure precisely which reduced the waste. The use of recyclable materials ensures that future renovations will be more environmentally friendly.
