Inspired by the geometry of the rock formations of the Saudi Red Sea coastline and traditional air movement architecture, the designers created the club’s cantilevered terraces to echo the shape of the surrounding cliffs.
The nautical inspiration of the design shines through with reference to a traditional Arabian house with a smooth white exterior that is cut back to reveal luxurious metals and a rich palette of locally sourced stone, timber and leather.
The goal of the project is to create a luxury location for yachting enthusiasts from around the world. This is achieved through features such as the terrace restaurant, infinity pool deck and rooftop cabana lounge. In addition an 80m Quai d’honneur for yachting events, passeggiata and regattas is supported by a full-service marina.
At the point of arrival, the entrance is set within an arch over a shaded plaza with views of the Red Sea. With a vaulted ceiling featuring mirrors over a star-lit floor, the evening arrivals will witness an alternative to the natural night sky. Throughout the rest of the resort a brass champagne colour scheme ties the bars, lounges and restaurants together.
The 7,900 sq m resort will be entirely off-grid with power being solely supplied by onsite renewable energy. In addition, the whole development is targeting a LEED Gold standard for environmental sustainability at minimum.
We were clear from the outset that we wanted to create a building of its place, with the design drawing inspiration from local landscapes and culture, alongside the nature of the marine lifestyle. The team wanted to reimagine the yacht club as a modern concept, a home from home for nautical enthusiasts from all backgrounds, from leisure to elite sport.

The project is part of the Vision 2030 initiative to diversify the economy by creating 50,000 new jobs and contributing to the Saudi economy. The first phase of the project is on track to finish in 2024, at which point 1,200 hotels and a range of outlets and leisure facilities will be available.
