Dragon fish tail’s movement inspires Aedas’ design for Hengqin Port, China

The structure of MCC Shenshi International Plaza has a staggered and fluid mass

Between Zhuhai and Macau, a new landmark has been created that unites retail and offices in a 140,000 sq m high-rise complex.

Floor plates with dynamic curves create a beautiful image that emphasises the hollowed out design of the two towers, creating a visual corridor and facilitating the ventilation of the site. Atop the tower is a glass canopy which introduces natural light throughout and provides vitality to the roof garden.

We sought to create a landmark urban complex that rises above the surrounding warren of high-rise buildings and reflects its significance as an important link between Hengqin New Area and Macau.

The north tower connects to the south via a five-storey bridge which also includes office functions, utilising the space and providing panoramic views of the city below. Beneath is the retail podium which features retail villas atop a cloud canopy.

The structure’s façade is constructed with aluminium plates which frame glass panels. This helps conserve energy, and when paired with the black brushed stainless steel, gives the appearance of rippling blue waves.

Echoing each other, the rooftop commercial villa and the podium both feature multidirectional entrances to guide the flow of people. With a 24-hour all-weather pedestrian corridor and an aerial bridge connecting the two towers, the design becomes a self-contained ecosystem that links seamlessly with the surrounding area.
