Uschi Schelle-Müller designs traditional Bavarian comfort in the foothills of the Alps

‘Das Achental’ combines German tradition with contemporary design and luxury

by Séan Thurgood 13 October 2022

Boasting several amenities such as a golf course, wellness centre, and restaurant with Michelin-starred chef Edip Sigl, the hotel in Chiemgau can accommodate up to 179 guests within the building’s dark rustic features.

Housed within a former equestrienne farm, the backdrop of the surrounding mountains and Chiemsee lake provides a beautiful view from all sides of the hotel. The fine-dining restaurant focuses on fresh regional produce to translate the sights, sounds and smells of Chiemgau into expertly crafted meals.

Within the building, furniture made from aged wood, loden (wool textiles) and open fireplaces have all been constructed by local craftsmen. Each suite is defined by Alpine traditions and features bespoke organic toiletries.

The area boasts multiple opportunities for windsurfing and boating on the nearby lake, and skiing, cycling and hiking around the landscape and nearby mountains.
