Project: Yuntai Ice Chrysanthemum Display Shelves

The Yuntai Ice Chrysanthemum Industrial Park needed a display area to showcase its flagship products to best effect. It sells medicinal chrysanthemum to visiting tour groups and via livestreaming marketing, so a characterful space for showcasing the products was essential.
Interior designers LUO studio transformed the existing cold and featureless industrial room in to an intriguing exhibition space with the creation of display shelves woven from curved wood. Three sets of exhibition shelves are arranged in four passages to allow easy access through the space for shoppers and staff. The result: a natural and warm space in keeping with the product being sold.
Design highlights
The designers chose a thin type of wooden panel manufactured by a local timber factory, which could be easily assembled by hand. The thin timber panels were bent in to arch shapes and then connected to the building’s existing steel frames. The technique used was similar to the hand weaving technique of local rural communities, giving the shelves an authentic feel that’s in keeping with the ice chrysanthemums which are picked, sorted, dried and baked by villagers.
