Project: VIP Villa
Award: One off homes – Large and small, Silver, 2022
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Design practice: LW Design
Client: Private
The design brief from the owners of this expansive three-storey, seven-bedroom villa in an exclusive neighbourhood of Dubai was soft, feminine and understated.
LW Design was tasked with ensuring the various rooms had their own identity and flowed seamlessly from space to space. The designers created separation between the main family living areas and the more formal areas such as the majlis, formal dining room and study.
The clever use of neutral colours, warm timbers and soft grey marble make for elegant living and entertaining spaces while the family living area and kitchen at the heart of the home, are broken up into spaces by using contemporary champagne gold metal screens and decorative shelving. This creates comfortable and intimate seating groups whilst retaining the glorious sense of space. Soft textures and a neutral colour palette of teal and dusky pink tones play harmoniously with Dubai's warm light.
Design highlights
The general ceiling height around the villa is four metres while the entrance ceiling height is an impressive nine metres. The sheer height creates a grand first impression when walking into the villa. The master bedroom has oversized artwork shaped like a screen which acts as a headboard and provides a focus to the room. The master bathroom has wall-to-wall soft grey marble complemented by bronze metal screens and a feature freestanding bath.
