Shenzhen’s new Metro Line 16 covers nearly 30 kilometres and was completed in November, 2022. Its contemporary station designs feature a wealth of striking design features. In one, a multi-faceted crystal design is used to create a geometric ceiling which echoes the shape of a rift valley. In another, dynamic spatial curves change with regular centripetal trajectories. Evenly distributed LED strip lighting on the curved arch simulates interstellar motion trajectory, reflecting the rapid development of technology in Shenzhen.
In the Pingshanwei station, designers extracted elements of Hakka culture to design and create a series of childlike sculptures.
Design highlights
Shuanglong station’s twisting space is designed to mimic the ‘posture of a wandering dragon’. Shell windows, shaped like dragon scales, are arranged within the station. The design is Intended to symbolise the inherited giant dragon that drives the revitalization of the urban area and the development of culture and tourism, as well as the fusion of technology and tradition.
