Dynamic red staircase unifies banking office

“Genius stair design connecting 12 levels and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation,” Roshni Kshirsagar, Judge

Project: NAB 2CS

Location: Sydney, Australia

Award: Workspace Interiors: Corporate Offices (Over 10,000 sqm), Bronze, 2023

Design Practice: Woods Bagot

Client: National Australia Bank (NAB)

The location for NAB’s new office comprises the heritage listed Shell House and new 10 Carrington Tower, joined by a dramatic central atrium. On the upper levels, the workplace design evolves the bank’s existing workplace strategy by providing a diverse suite of spaces for staff. A unified experience is created, both physically and visually, through the introduction of a dynamic 'red thread' stair, running from the ground floor and through the atrium to connect all 12 storeys. The project was designed in parallel with a new NAB workplace at the heart of greater Sydney, NAB 3 Parramatta Square (NAB 3PS). Consideration of the relationship between the two sites as well as their unique attributes and demographics played a pivotal role in the design process, to ensure a distinct yet unified solution for each.

Design highlights

The workplace demonstrates NAB's commitment to sustainability and wellbeing through the inclusion of a range of outdoor spaces for work and social activities, a dedicated staff support and wellness suite, integrated internal planting, the use of environmentally conscious materials and design for longevity.
