A prototype for the pre-fabricated dome was unveiled in the city of Ahmedabad, India last month where it was successfully tried out as a venue for multiple cultural events.
The striking parametric exoskeleton is the brainchild of andblack design studio, based in Ahmedabad, India. It arrives as a prefabricated kit of parts made from steel, wood, aluminium and glass. The dome can then be dry-assembled on-site and disassembled when required and does not require a plinth or a foundation to build on. Because no heavy equipment is needed for its transportation or construction it’s ideal for locations where road access is difficult, electricity is scarce and excavation is undesirable. Designed to be placed in public gardens, exhibition grounds or a city centre it can accommodate up to 100 people.
