This striking nightclub refurbishment in the heart of Shanghai features retro interiors with a theatre theme. A sequence of symmetrical, curved lighting installations draw on the deep, long lane form of local antique Shikumen buildings, while mirrored surfaces and a pared back colour scheme add a modern twist.
Split into two rooms – the larger, futuristic space offers hip-hop music while a smaller room for house & techno music is full of immersive lighting and shadows, which produce a film-like, retro atmosphere. The bar counter is set back to give way to the "stage", with a view to highlighting people and music.
The 9 metre high main space is centred around the lift-style DJ stage, which provides a panoramic view over the club.
Design highlights
Stone materials, mirror-like finishes, paints, stainless steel and leather all combine to provide a distinctive and glamorous monochromatic colour scheme with the dominant black tone appearing in various shades.
