This pop-up magazine and book shop, uses large cloud-like installations to breath new life in to a dwindling market in Beijing. Occupying 500 square metre in a large shopping mall its eye catching design aims to attract more customers at a time when people are buying fewer hard copies of books and magazines than they used to.
Design highlights
The form of the roof and counter of a traditional magazine shop is translated into the form of cloud through the curving white installations which hang from the ceiling and the sinuous white display stands. Clouds are fleeting and disappear easily into the sky, and this floating form of clouds is a metaphor for the "disappearing magazine-shop". The pop-up store is sustainable as all of the fittings can be easily removed and used again in another shopping centre.
