Sara Campagna is a Senior Associate Architect at Holland-based UNStudio where she has played a pivotal role in diverse projects, ranging from interior design and urban planning to cultural buildings and public spaces, all aimed at enhancing quality of life and the environment. With a strong foundation in Architecture and Building Engineering from the University of Bologna and additional training in Economics from Bocconi University, Sara is a multidisciplinary designer with balanced expertise in both technical and creative design aspects, and across multiple scales of design.

Sara has a plethora of tips for potential entrants and encourages you to clearly articulate your design concept by explaining the core idea behind it and the inspiration that drove it.

“This will help the judges understand your creative vision and its significance,” she says.

She adds: “Emphasize how your project addresses key themes such as innovation, sustainability, and user experience, showing how your design is forward-thinking and relevant.”

She also explains that it’s important for entrants to cover any technical obstacles encountered and how they were overcome, demonstrating problem-solving skills and technical expertise.

“Explain why your project is relevant in today's context, addressing how it meets contemporary needs and challenges. Detail how your design interacts with its surroundings, highlighting sustainable practices and the environmental impact of your project. Describe how your design improves quality of life and contributes to the future of humanity, emphasizing the social and individual benefits,” she says.

Sara believes the WIN Awards are important because they “highlight innovative contributions to the built environment, inspire industry peers and set benchmarks for quality.”

She adds: “Ultimately, they celebrate the creativity, dedication, and positive impact that organizations have on our communities and the future of design.”

Esther Martins is the Dean of the Built Environment Faculty at Inscape Education Group, a multi-disciplinary design institution in South Africa.
