Project: Greylock Partners
Award: Workspace Interiors - Corporate Offices (Under 2,000 SQM), 2024
Location: San Francisco, United States
Design Practice: Rapt Studio
Client:
Greylock Partners

The elegant and inviting new flaghship workspace for venture capital firm Greylock Partners, designed by Rapt Studio, is located in the  penthouse of Art Deco landmark, 140 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco.

“Rapt was tasked with creating a modern, memorable, timeless space while honouring its historical elements. How might the site celebrate Greylock’s legacy while immersing guests in a spirit of innovation, fueling curiosity and a sense of anticipation?” the design studio said.

The experience begins just off the elevator in a portal inspired by the building’s existing interiors — moody and rich in materiality, featuring stone, mosaic tile, and lime-washed walls. It ushers guests toward the reception illuminated just beyond, where windows frame a view of the Bay.

A line of discreet meeting rooms where visiting entrepreneurs pitch ideas to investors sit to the right and left of the reception. Navigation to these spaces is intuitive and easy since the entire office is designed first and foremost to host. An illuminated band along the ceiling, reminiscent of a skylight, plays with the theme of being on the top floor, directing visitors to the boardroom where south- and east-facing windows capture views of downtown San Francisco.

Design highlights

Anchoring the opposite side of the office is dedicated space for Greylock’s hybrid workforce. Individual workstations, private offices and a well-equipped coffee bar sit under a historic plaster ceiling. A central island and extended table are a magnet for casual conversations, fueling Greylock’s internal culture of lively collaboration. Staff come here to socialize during days of meetings, phone calls and video conferencing.

“The common thread throughout this space is the interplay of nostalgia and new, with prominent Art Deco elements and modern details seamlessly harmonizing. Whimsical and fresh, inviting and approachable, this space will serve Greylock for a long time to come,” Rapt Studio added.
