Project: Alcott
Award: Residential Interiors, Residential Developments (Apartments), 2024
Location: Boston, United States
Design Practice: Elkus Manfredi Architects
Client: Equity Residential
Located in the heart of Boston’s West End neighbourhood, Alcott replaces the former TD Garden Garage with a 44-storey luxury residential tower above a four-story, below-grade parking structure. The tower features 470 homes, including 17 below-market-rate residences as well as amenity space, ground-floor retail, and nearly one acre of new public open space.
Elkus Manfredi Architect's interiors provide an elegant, refined atmosphere with thoughtful details and finishes and abundant amenities for residents. The welcoming lobby features warm, natural wood tones, a delicate glass sculpture by Graham Coldwell above the reception desk, and a vibrant textural painting by Emilio Perez, commissioned specifically for the Alcott lobby and created on-site. Residents and guests can wait for their rides or friends on comfortable lounge seating or a separate gathering area with a high-top table and brass pendant lights.
There is a co-working lounge for residents on level two, offering window seating, two-person booths, a communal table wired for connectivity, and a series of enclosed conference rooms that provide private space for focused work and meetings.
Adjacent to the co-working lounge, a large, light-filled fitness centre looks out into the garden terrace on the same level, bringing nature into the space through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Design highlights
The two-level outdoor terrace offers numerous spots for relaxing and socializing, with a variety of seating options that enable residents to soak up the sun, grill with friends, or gather around the fire pit. With its wet bar, lounge and banquette seating, the terrace lounge creates a comfortable four-season space for residents.
With panoramic views of Boston, Cambridge, and the Charles River, the Sky Lounge on Level 37 is Alcott’s premier social space, and includes a kitchen perfect for hosting. Residents also have access to a gaming lounge with a pool table and shuffleboard, a separate quiet room with comfortable soft seating, and a meeting or dining room that can be reserved for private functions. The Sky Deck, with its mix of outdoor seating and wading pool, becomes a popular draw during summer months.
