Project: Belmondo

Location: Linkoping, Sweden

Zesty Interiors’ playful design for Italian restaurant Belmondo in Linkoping, Sweden echoes the 1970’s Amalfi coast with a swinging colour scheme that is present everywhere from the soft, vibrant fabrics to the hand painted tiles.
Customers enters from the outdoor terrace area which is intended to blur the lines between outdoor and indoor with it's sky-blue roof, plentiful greenery and Onice Giallo Sienna bar.
A cosy dining room is fitted with a roof lantern as a further connection to the outside as well as custom made bookshelves and service stations, a wall mural by Swedish artist Ossian Theselius and a fountain fitted with a ceramic lion's head. The main furnishings in this room sit on an Oak hardwood floor in the middle, with Créma Lune and Verde Guatemala marble fitted diagonally in the passage ways and around the kitchen.
Meanwhile, the open kitchen is ever-present, fitted on the restaurant side with a bespoke bookshelf in a vibrant red hue and filled with Italian books and ornamentation. The sightline to the chefs, hard at work, is meant to bring a connection between the kitchen and the customer and represent honesty in process as a representation of Italian cooking.
Design highlights
“Our design for Belmondo is special to us. It's one of a kind in Sweden and dare we say Europe. Great pains were taken in sourcing everything for the restaurant. We hand picked the marble in Verona, the tiles are hand painted from Sicily and the light fixtures were hand made in Venice,” Zesty Interiors said.
“Sweden is quite cold for most months of the year and Belmondo is meant to be a 'summer all year', escape from reality sort of experience for the visitor,” the design practice added.
