Biophilic studio provides a wellness focused workspace

"The space is relaxed and casual, and promotes a free-flow of people, cooperation and co-creation," Anna Reiderman-Hickey, Judge

Project: Benoy Singapore Studio
Award: Bronze, Workspace Interiors - Studios, Co-working Spaces & Home Offices, 2024
Location: Singapore
Design Practice: Benoy
Client: Benoy

Benoy’s design for its own Singapore studio exemplifies post-pandemic flexibility with a design that maximizes productivity and comfort. Spanning approximately 536 square metres on the 21st floor of The Gateway Singapore, the studio provides breathtaking views of the downtown core and city skyline.

Inspired by the cosiness of a home, the space radiates a warm and welcoming ambiance. A generous, open galleria showcases the firm’s heritage, awards and iconic projects while agile working principles are integrated with distinct zones that include adaptable workspaces, private acoustic pods for focused tasks, and collaborative zones with ergonomic desks and communal tables.

The judges praised the way in which the design team "was able to achieve a clear separation of spaces without the use of walls and tangible partitions" on a fairly small footprint.

They also singled out the project's "wellness-centric design" and its biophilic and sustainability elements.

Design highlights

The Loft offers an open, inviting atmosphere perfect for events, informal meetings, and social gatherings. It includes ergonomic work desks with sea views, a retractable projector screen, and yoga mats for after-work exercise.

Biophilic elements enhance wellbeing throughout, with various species of indoor plants and green walls, fostering a strong human-nature connection. An impressive plant-to-people ratio of 16:1 enhances air quality and aesthetics.

Sustainable practices include reusing furniture and sourcing eco-friendly materials. Innovative use of materials include eco-friendly carpets that can be recycled at the end of their lifecycle and low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) materials to ensure a healthy indoor environment.
