Zooco Estudio: a building leading an enticing double life in Balcón de La Bahía

Located in one of the avenues of Santander in Spain, the near 100 year old building enjoys views of the bay

by Alison Carter 12 August 2020

The building, which has been used for teaching throughout its life starting as a school, later a university centre and finally, a nursery, is now to be converted to a residential public space as a hotel in the summer and a student residence during the academic year.

The rooms therefore meet the needs of occupants in both situations, with a simple movement of the beds, versatile headboards and cupboards.

Given the close relationship of the city and the building with the sea, a marine theme continues with the use of materials such as oak and limestone and light colors with predominance of blue and grey and pure and clean geometries.
